Biographical Information: Terrance Stanley Fox (1958-1981). Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba Terry Fox was an accomplished athlete before losing his leg to cancer at the age of nineteen. In 1980, Fox began the “Marathon of Hope”, a cross country run to raise money for cancer research. Although he was unable finish, his legacy continues in the annual Terry Fox Run, the world\'s largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research. The youngest person ever to be named a Companion in the Order of Canada, Fox is considered a national hero, and to date, over 500 million dollars have been raised in his name for cancer research.
